An observatory is a location used for observing terrestrial, marine, or celestial events. Astronomy, climatology / meteorology, geophysics, oceanography and volcanology are examples of disciplines for which observatories have been constructed. Understanding the Context
Visitors may look through telescopes, explore exhibits, see live shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, and enjoy spectacular views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign. NASA’s Swift observatory is a space satellite that studies gamma-ray bursts, the most powerful explosions in the universe, and other cosmic objects and events. Swift houses three multiwavelength telescopes, collecting data in visible, ultraviolet, X-ray, and gamma-ray light.
